Frequently asked questions

Can you see my data?

No, and not because we promise not to look. Gleamit has no servers at all. There is nowhere for your brushing history, notes, photos or documents to be sent, and no account for them to be attached to, so there is nothing for us to look at, lose, hand over or sell. Everything stays in the app on your phone.

The one exception is buying Gleamit Pro, which has to be checked with the App Store or Google Play. That check confirms your purchase and nothing else: no brushing data, no notes, no photos, no documents.

I’m moving to a new phone. How do I keep my data?

In most cases your phone does it for you. Gleamit stores everything inside the app’s own storage, which your device’s built-in backup already covers, so restoring the new phone from that backup, or using the guided phone-to-phone transfer, brings Gleamit back with it. Make sure the backup is switched on before you wipe or hand over the old phone.

Is that backup encrypted?

Yes. Your phone scrambles the backup before it leaves the device, and it goes into your own Google or Apple account. It never passes through us, and we have no way to see it.

Two things are worth knowing:

The file you create with Export full backup is not scrambled, on purpose, so that it stays yours to open. Keep it somewhere you trust, like any other personal document.

How do I make a copy of my data myself?

Use Settings → Backup & export → Export full backup. It writes one file containing everything, history, teeth, reminders, documents and photos, that you can keep on a cloud drive or computer and restore any time with Import full backup.

This is worth doing in three cases: you are on Android and want your dentist documents and smile photos to survive a lost or broken phone, since the export is the only route for those; you are switching between Android and iPhone, which no device backup crosses; or you simply want a copy that does not depend on Google or Apple.

I paid for Pro but the features are locked

Open the Pro screen and tap Restore purchase. Pro is a one-time purchase tied to the store account that bought it, so make sure you are signed in to the App Store or Google Play with that same account. If it still does not unlock, email us with the store receipt and we will sort it out.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Everything Gleamit holds lives on your device, so removing the app removes the data. Nothing is kept anywhere else, so there is no account to close and no server-side copy to request.

Why does Gleamit ask for camera and photo access?

Only to add pictures you choose to add: photos of your smile for the smile timeline, and photos or scans of dentist documents such as X-rays and treatment plans. The images stay on your device, and the app never uploads them.

Is Gleamit a medical device? Will it tell me what to do?

No. Gleamit is a habit and record-keeping tool. It shows you what you entered and attributes information to public health sources where relevant, but it does not diagnose anything, assess anything you type in, or give medical advice. For anything concerning your teeth or gums, see your dentist.

Which languages does Gleamit support?

English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
